4th Grade Reminders
I'm excited to begin the new school year. We have so much to learn about this year.

1. Homework is assigned nightly in each class. Homework is a good way to practice skills that we are learning in the classroom. In addition to homework, I challenge students to read for at least 20 minutes each night. As students are spending time reading, they are building their reading, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.

2. Each Tuesday, teachers send home our weekly communication folders. These folders have assignments from each teacher and other important information. Please look through the folder each week and contact us with questions, comments, or concerns.

Communication

By Donald Johnson

Communication is key to a successful year.  We send folders home each Tuesday which includes all graded work from each fourth grade teacher for the week as well as other pertinent information as it arises during the year.

If you have questions, comments, or concerns please contact me via email or phone call at any point.  If you would like to schedule a conference time with me, please email me with a preferred date and time.

* A quick and easy way to stay up to date with the 4th grade teachers is through the Remind app - this is a messaging app that will allow you immediately communicate with us.
Social Studies
We have concluded our study of Native Americans and their role in our culture today.

As we are approaching election season for local political races, it is perfect that we are beginning our study of government and politics. We will begin our investigation of the government by looking into the branches of our national government and the role that they play in our everyday lives.
Essential Supplies
Each day, students are expected to come ready to learn with the following materials:

1. Binder
2. Agenda
3. Homework and warm up
4. Pencils and pencil pouch
5. Interactive Notebook
English Language Arts
We have just completed our theme unit and how we can determine "THEMEssage" (THEME: the message, moral, or lesson) of a drama, poem, or prose. Students are being challenged to discover the theme within various texts as well as apply the theme to their lives.

Our newest unit is non-fiction. We are looking at various text-types that provide us with factual information, including historical readings, documents, photographs, and many other features. Be sure to ask your child about the various text features that we are learning in class!
