New Notice of Procedural Safeguards Available!

The Notice of Procedural Safeguards: Parent’s Rights and Responsibilities in Special Education has been updated and is now available in English and Spanish on the Office of Exceptional Children’s (OEC) Resources for Families and Students website. Additional language translation versions will be available in the next few months.

The Notice of Procedural Safeguards explains the legal rights parents have under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) throughout the special education process, including participation in meetings, access to educational records, prior written notice, independent educational evaluations, dispute resolution options, and protections related to student discipline.

Parents are encouraged to review the revised document and keep a copy for future reference as they work with their child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.

Advanced Learning & Gifted Education

Governor’s School Applications are DUE by November 13th.  This is the district-level date.  Please check with your Site Coordinator to ensure you submit all required materials by their due date (may vary by school).

Family Engagement:

Open Enrollment will start in January for the 27-28 school year.  It is very important that you have access to the Parent Portal site for your child. This year we will be using Infinite Campus for you to retain your child’s seat or to ask for a transfer.

If you do not have access to the Parent Portal site please reach out to the Data Manager at your child’s school or check your email for an invitation that has been sent for you to join.  This will be new this year and we are sharing the information early to give parents time enough to get an account if you have not already done so at this time.

McKinney-Vento:

GCPS has opened the CARES Closet in the northern end at J.F. Webb High School and will be opening the first week of November a second CARES Closet in the southern end of the county. This room will be located on the GA/PA Academies site. CARES stands for Clothing, Access, Resources, Essentials and Supplies. Through generous donations the rooms have many resources that our families experiencing housing issues may need. Families should let their school counselor know and a district social worker will work with the family to bring supplies, or meet them at the room so they can “shop” for necessities.

As a district, our role is to assist families that may be experiencing housing issues with resources that help make sure students are able to continue to access their education. Our district liaison and district social workers can also provide families with information regarding housing options and other resources.
